Varsity Soccer Finishes Season Strong

The Chargers earned 3rd place overall in the conference.

During their first year of play in the Southwest Preparatory Conference, the Varsity Soccer team finished in 3rd place overall — a huge accomplishment given the competition that the Chargers faced throughout the season.

The team ended their season on a hot streak, winning three consecutive conference games in only four days. The streak started on February 5 when the Chargers defeated Awty 4-1. The first goal was a 30-yard shot from Delaney VanPelt, followed by a goal from Brynn Bond assisted off a cross from Maeve Klenke. The third goal came from Maeve with an assist by Delaney, and Julia Harfenist scored the final goal. Maddie Agee also had a huge game in goal, making more than 20 saves!

On February 6, the Chargers beat St. Stephens 4-0 with Isabella Masso in goal with no goals allowed. Brynn, assisted by Tessa Harfenist, earned the first goal, followed by Echo Malinowski-Cunningham, who scored off a corner kick. Caro Maruri assisted Maeve for the third goal, followed by Andrea Lessmann scoring the team's final goal.

The Chargers were back at it on February 8 when they earned a 4-0 shutout against Kinkaid. Delaney kicked things off with a beautiful upper 90 goal from more than 30 yards out. Caro came up big with an unstoppable 20-yard shot to earn the second goal, which was quickly followed by a goal from Tessa. The final goal came from Maeve to solidify the game. Maddie and Isabella came up huge with a collective 13 saves to keep the clean sheet.

The entire team worked hard throughout the season and overcame numerous challenges to take a top spot in the conference. With many key players who are freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, the Chargers are sure to be a dominating force next year.
