Varsity Volleyball Team Wins Tournament Championship
Following two days of competitive play, Varsity Volleyball took home the first-place trophy at the Covenant Christian Tournament.
The Varsity Volleyball team earned the championship trophy after winning the two-day Covenant Christian Volleyball Tournament held August 24 – 25 in Conroe, Texas. The Chargers dominated play all weekend and capped off the tournament with a 25-6 set victory in their final match to win the tournament.
The team started off day one of the tournament as a dominant force, losing only two sets the entire day. This effort earned the team a #2 seed in the tournament bracket for day two of play.
"We saw great contributions from the entire team which was led by our seven seniors," said Leon Blazer, head coach.
On day two of the tournament, the Duchesne team faced Brazos, who they'd lost to on day one. But this time, the Chargers defeated Brazos beating them in straight sets. Next, Duchesne had a re-match with Faith Academy, the only other opponent that had defeated them on day one. It was a high-energy match that challenged the Chargers' best efforts. But the combined team effort of the Duchesne Varsity ultimately won out. The Chargers won the first set 25-16. The match was close leading up the mid-point in that set, but then the consistency of play took over and the Chargers came out on top. The final set saw the Chargers play close to perfect as they moved on to a 25-6 set win to take home the title of champion.
"This tournament win was a great step forward for Duchesne volleyball as we progress toward the start of District play," said Coach Blazer. "We are excited about the growth and consistency we have seen, and we look toward taking this success into our next tournament and eventually into Districts."
