Celebrating Feast of the Sacred Heart, Opening of Bicentennial
It was 200 years ago that St. Rose Philippine Duchesne crossed frontiers, journeying to North America to establish the Network of Sacred Heart Schools. On June 23, 2017, many in Houston's Sacred Heart community gathered together in the Burguières Family Chapel of the Sacred Heart for a Mass to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart, marking the beginning of the Bicentennial of Philippine's arrival in the New World. The Mass was broadcast from the chapel at Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School in St. Louis, Missouri, allowing those at Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Houston to join via webcast. During the Mass, Religious of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ), Associates, and Children of Mary renewed their vows and promises. The RSCJs in attendance in Houston included Sr. Lucie Nordmann, Sr. Ann Caire, Sr. Carolyn Siy, Sr. Barbara Moreau, Sr. Suzanne Lasseigne, Sr. Sharon Karam, Sr. Pat Munch, and Sr. Mary Charlotte Chandler.
Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart is also preparing to celebrate the Bicentennial year when the students return to school in August. Click here for more information on the Bicentennial.
