Grade Level Classes and Camps

PK3 Summer Camp

Fun-filled weeks will be had by all while enjoying age-appropriate arts & crafts, games, stories, music, sports and Friday Splash Day. This program runs Monday – Friday, 8:30 – 2:30 and is open to boys and girls.  All students attending this camp must be 3 years old by January 1, 2019 and completely potty-trained.

Session 1- Moovin’ and Groovin’

Lace up your tennis shoes and let’s get moovin’! This week will be all about making fitness fun and learning to work together as a team. We will talk about food that make our bodies strong and make some tasty, but healthy snacks too!

Session 2- Once Upon A Time

The perfect camp for children who love stories and using their imagination! This week we will celebrate our favorite characters from storybooks. Each day will focus on a different book with fun crafts, songs and snacks to go along!

Session 3- Wild About Animals

If you love animals, then this week is for you! Learn all about different animals, play animal themed games, create animal art and explore cool and colorful critters from around the world. It’s sure to be a ROARING good time!

Session 4- Magical Mermaids & Peg-Legged Pirates

Ahoy Mateys and beautiful Maidens! Arrrrr you ready for a fun week of Pirate and Mermaid Adventures? This week we will have fun painting seashells, decorating pirate masks and even walking the plank! Join the crew to create treasure maps and work together to find the buried treasure!

Session 5- Princesses, Knights, and Dragons! Oh My!

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! All the Princesses and Knights from across the land are gathering for a week that is sure to be grand! This week we will create the things all princesses and knights need like wands, crowns, swords and shields. There will be enchanting games, explorations, crafts, and fun. This week will be a royally good time for your camper!

Session 6- Commotion in the Ocean

Come SEE what it’s in SEA! It’s time to discover the wonders of the deep blue sea like Nemo and ♪♫Baby Shark..doo doo doo doo doo doo♪♫. Children will explore what lies in the ocean through fun games, stories, songs, crafts and more!

Girls Camp (Girls entering PK4 - Kindergarten)

This weekly program is for girls entering PreK4 through Kindergarten. The six theme-based weeks will include integrated curriculum. Experience an enjoyable, fun-filled, nurturing atmosphere with arts and crafts, cooking, games, story time, music, sports and splash days! Choose from full-day or half-day options. All students enrolled in Duchesne Academy’s Heart of the Summer must be completely potty-trained.

Session 1 - Pampered Princesses

Come join us for a week of plush pampering at the Duchesne Spa! Your little princess will receive the “royal treatment” she deserves. We will treat our dainty divas to manis, pedis, fun hair styles, and more.  We will make spa products, healthy snacks and learn yoga too!  A fabulous spa week is waiting for you!

Session 2 - Diving into Books

Let’s make a splash with your favorite books as we dive into stories!  Get your toes wet with Pete the Cat on his “groovy” adventures.  Relax on a float as you feed the hungry Caterpillar.  Slip down the slide as you make bread with the Little Red Hen.  We will plunge into the water with your favorite stories through art, cooking, drama, and play.  Don’t miss the fabulous week where we will splish, splash and have a blast!

Session 3 - Pet Palooza

Dogs-Cats-Fish- Oh my!  This week our campers will explore everything about PETS.  They will discuss and create different types of pets, as well as the needs of pets.  We will have special animal visitors and we will bake some “dog-gone good” treats.  Don’t miss out on this pawty!

Session 4 - Mermaid School

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live under the sea? Take a deep dive into the sea as we become mermaids this week. We will discover gadgets and gizmos aplenty as we explore the ocean floor. We will do many fun ocean activities the stuff that mermaid dreams are made of!

Session 5 - Fairy Princesses

Grab your wings and wands and get ready for a week’s worth of fairy tale fun! We will learn the ins-and-outs and by the end of the week, you will be fit to be a fairy princess! We can’t wait for the magical adventure to begin!

Session 6 - Summer Shark Doo Doo Doo Doo ♪♫

Come be a ♪♫ “Baby shark, doo doo!” ♪♫ with us while we learn and explore different types of sharks. End your summer with a one-of-a-kind experience; a whole week dedicated to learning about sharks in their natural environment. Don’t miss out on this shark-tastic week!

Boys Camp (Boys entering PK4 - Kindergarten)

Swish, Pow, Boom! “Kick Off” the summer with a week jammed packed with sports-themed activities! Come join us as we learn to work together and practice good sportsmanship while exploring a variety of action-packed sports. Teamwork makes the dream work and you are sure to score big with this week!

Session 2 - Imagination Station: Books Alive!

Jump into your favorite books as you make the characters come alive!  Swing into Max’s world of the wild things, make a taco for your dragon to eat, jump in the middle of the epic battle to understand the legend of rock paper scissors!  Your imagination is the limit, come act out scenes as well as use a mix of 3D and 2D materials to find the magic in your favorite books!

Session 3 - Rumble in the Mighty Jungle

Hold onto your binoculars as you swing into the wild jungle!  Join your safari guides as you traverse thru the brush to explore the jungles most mighty animals including the king of the jungle himself! Come see what adventures the jungle holds for you!

Session 4 - Ahoy Matey!

Come Aboard the USS Duchesne!  As we sail into July, our little Pirates will explore the “Pirate’s Life”.  Through tales of swashbuckling buccaneers and buried treasures we will be immersed in fun and adventure.  Captain Calderhead and Captain Rhode will lead the crew in pirate themed stories, art work, games, and much more!  Join the bounty of fun or walk the plank!

Session 5 - Dino Mite

Take a trip back into the lost world of these Jurassic Reptiles!  We will become paleontologists who will uncover the story behind the lives of dinosaurs.  We will have a roar of a time learning about different species of dinosaurs, hunting for “fossils”, and making dinosaur tracks!  Come join us and we’ll have a din-o-time!

Session 6 - Shark Week

Duh-dun, duh-dun,duh-dun, duh-dun…..swim on over for an adventure of a lifetime! Looking for brave and fearless boys who are interested in learning about SHARKS!  During this “jawsome” week we will learn about the different types of sharks and their worlds.  Boys will “bite into” these animals with crafts, activities, and games.  Join us for a sharktastic time!

Prep for Kindergarten (Coed)

This fun week will refresh your son’s or daughter’s PreK4 skills and help make a successful transition to Kindergarten. The class is offered from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m., Monday – Friday.

Session 1 - Kindergarten Campout

Let’s get fired up for Kindergarten! Campers will camp out with great literature to explore nature while enhancing pre-reading, writing, and math skills. This is a great way to give them a head start to the wonderful kindergarten adventure on which they will soon embark! Don’t miss out, and let’s get to packing for s’more learning fun!

Session 2 - O-fish-ally in Kindergarten

Session 4 - Onto Kindergarten You'll  Go!

Session 6 - Winter in July

This week we will escape the summer heat and dive into the wintery world of the Arctic. We will learn all about arctic animals while developing pre-reading, writing and math skills through whole group and small group settings. Join us for some fun penguin prep-ing for Kindergarten.

Prep for 1st Grade (Coed)

Get a head start on 1st grade while experiencing an exciting week refreshing reading, writing and math skills. The class will be held 8:30 – 11:30 a.m., Monday – Friday.

Session 1 - Zoo Crew

Join us for a week of zoo themed activities! It will be a zoo-pendous time developing reading, writing and math skills through whole group and small group settings, while learning about all different types of animals. Can’t wait for you to join our Zoo Crew!

Session 6 - Out of this World

This week’s theme takes us out of this world as we strengthen reading, writing, and math skills used in first grade. We will use space themed objects such as planets, stars, the sun, and the moon to enhance our learning!

Prep for 2nd Grade (Coed)

Get ready for 2nd grade by strengthening reading comprehension, writing and math skills and having fun at the same time! The class will be held 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Monday – Friday.

Session 3 - Have Fun with Nature

Apply second grade math, reading, and writing skills using nature’s resources.  We will strengthen reading comprehension by reading nature stories, go on nature walks to develop creative minds, creature nature art, and use natural objects to practice math facts.  Using nature is a great way to learn!

Session 5 - Worldly Adventures

Summer Program Policies

Program Overview

Summer Academic and Enrichment Courses Entering Grades PK3 - 12

Welcome to Duchesne's summer program for girls and boys entering grades PK3 - 12. We offer more than 200 classes with a wide variety of topics such as ACADEMICS, SPORTS, MUSIC, ART, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, COOKING, DANCE, and much more! Join us for a fun nurturing experience which is what the heart of your child's summer should be!


Admissions Policies

The School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, or any other status protected by applicable law in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, tuition assistance, or other school administered student programs.


Early registration is strongly advised due to limited enrollment of classes. Students are accepted, and all courses are assigned in the order in which applications are received. Notification of acceptance will be via email once you have registered online. Payment in full is expected at time of registration.

All students must provide a copy of current immunization records unless currently enrolled at Duchesne. This must be received before any student’s registration is considered complete. Records can be emailed to or mailed to Duchesne Academy, Attention: Heart of the Summer, 10202 Memorial Drive Houston, TX 77024.

Everyone is charged a one-time annual registration fee of $30.00 per student. (Non-refundable)

Students are required to be in a summer course while on campus and must be supervised at all times. Students are not allowed to wait in the library or elsewhere on campus before a course, after a course is over or in between courses. Extended Morning and Extended Afternoon are offered to those who need to be dropped off early, 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m., or picked up after 3:00 p.m. Any child dropped off before 7:20 a.m. will be sent to Extended Morning and charged the appropriate fee.

When registering online, you may pay by credit card or e-check. Please note that there is a convenience fee charged by credit card companies for credit card payments. All registrations must be received and paid in full by May 24, 2019. A $35 late fee will be added for all students who register after May 24, 2019.


Registration for most classes closes the Thursday before classes begin. You will be notified at that time if the class is cancelled due to low enrollment.


Duchesne Academy’s Heart of the Summer Program reserves the right to change or cancel any class or program. Efforts will be made to assign students affected by such a change or cancellation to another available program, class or course. Please note that in this situation, the new class may be priced differently, and you will be charged or credited the difference. A complete class refund will be given in those cases where another program placement is not available. Parents will be notified as soon as possible of this situation. Any unused credit on an account will be refunded in the form of a check in August.

A $60 per class cancellation fee will be assessed for each class cancelled by the parent. This includes cancellations due to vacation schedules, conflicting activities and absences. Registration may be cancelled, and tuition refunded (minus the registration fee) prior to May 24, 2019.

Each time a confirmed class scheduled is changed or switched by a parent, a $25 fee will be charged for each class.

Dress Code

Appropriate summer school attire is required. Students may wear shorts, T-shirts, socks and tennis shoes. No sandals or flip-flops please.

Extended Morning & Extended Afternoon

Extended Morning meets in the Dining Hall from 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. daily. Extended Afternoon is held in the Dining Hall from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. daily. Students must be picked up on time. After 6:00 p.m., parents will be charged $10 for every 10 minutes that your child stays late in Extended Afternoon. The fee for Extended Morning is $50 a week. For Extended Afternoon, the fee is $75 a week. You may register for either of these on a weekly basis.

If an occasion arises that your child will need to be dropped off early or picked up late, the fee will be $10 per day for Extended Morning and $15 per day for Extended Afternoon. Payment for last minute drop-ins will be handled by the Business Office.

Lunch & Snacks


Only those students staying for afternoon class and activities are permitted to eat lunch in the Dining Hall at 11:30 a.m. All other students not staying for lunch must be picked up promptly at 11:30 a.m. in the Lower School circular drive. Students have the option of buying a lunch or bringing a sack lunch.

Heart of the Summer provides the option for students to buy lunch on a weekly basis through Duchesne Academy’s FLIK Dining Program. The fee for lunch is $35/week and can be purchased when registering.

Summer 2019 weekly menus will be available online June 3, 2019.

*Lunch will not be served during Summer Send off/Jumpstart Week (July 29-August 1). If your child is on campus from 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., they will need to bring their own lunch each day.


Snacks will be provided only to students who are participating in the PK3, Girls Camp, and Boys Camp programs, as well as Extended Afternoon. If your child needs a snack before or after lunch, he/she may bring one from home.

Cell Phone Policy

The use of cell phones, iPhones, iPads and other electronics are not permitted during the summer unless required by a class in which the student is registered. Students may use the phone in the Summer Program’s office if a phone call needs to be made. Should this become a problem, phones/electronics will be collected and given back at the end of the day.

Early & Late Pick-Up and Absences

Please come to the Summer Program office located in the Lower School library to sign your child in or out when picking up early or arriving late.


To report an absence, please call 713-468-8211 ext. 3200 and leave your child’s name and the class(es) that will be missed. We will notify the instructor(s).

Emergency Closing

In case of weather alerts and other emergencies, closure information will be posted on Please note that there are no refunds for days the school is closed due to weather.

Academic Credit Courses

Credit courses are demanding academically, and the schedule is rigorous. Perfect attendance is required. Credit will not be awarded to students who miss any class. Grades are given to students by the end of the course through the instructor. Official grade reports and credit are awarded the first semester after the summer course is completed.

Students who do not attend Duchesne will receive an official grade report in the mail after completion of the course. If a student withdraws from a credit course after a class has begun, the withdrawal and the withdrawal grade will be noted on the student’s permanent record. Withdrawals require a parent’s written authorization.

Field Trips

Waivers will be provided by teachers for all students who go on field trips. Waivers must be signed and returned before any student may leave campus. All students going on the field trip must wear his/her Heart of the Summer t-shirt for identification purposes.

Please use the worksheet to decide what classes your child will take during a session before you register online. Before submitting your registration to us, double check that there are no gaps in your child’s schedule and that no classes overlap. If you enter a class in one column, you should not enter a class in the other column that would conflict. For example, if a student will register for the three-hour class American Girl Playdate, which runs from 12 – 3 p.m., do not enter a class in the left-hand column after lunch. Please remember to register your child for Extended Morning or Extended Afternoon (shown on this sheet) if your child will need to arrive early or be picked up late.
