Graduation Attire

Graduation attire at Duchesne is part of one of our most cherished traditions dating back from the first graduation in 1964. Our seniors are required to wear full-length or tea-length white dresses with white lace crowns and white dress shoes. The white lace crowns are provided by the School. The following are specific guidelines for this event:

  • Dresses must be a pure white, which we call Xerox paper white. No cream, ivory, or ecru dresses are allowed.
  • Since it is a high school graduation, low necklines, backless, or off the shoulder dresses are inappropriate. Dresses must have two inch or wider straps or sleeves. The dress needs to fit in a way that allows your daughter to curtsy, walk up and down stairs, and sit comfortably. The skirt should not be too slim.
  • No shawls, wraps or jackets.
  • Ornamentation on the dress should be minimal; please see that beading is white and does not sparkle. Lace should be simple.
  • Dresses may not have trains. We recommend that the dresses be hemmed so that the skirt does not drag the ground since the girls do have to process in the gowns and curtsy during the course of graduation.
  • Jewelry should be minimal.
  • Dress shoes must be white and should be comfortable and not excessively high. No sandals or sneakers are allowed, but shoes with peep-toe or heel straps may be worn.
  • Since this is an outdoor ceremony and very sunny, if necessary, please see that the dress is lined and that undergarments do not show through.
  • Since it is hot and humid outside, bridal fabrics are often inappropriate in style for high school students and usually are made of hot and heavy fabrics such as stain and crepe. A dress made from a dress pattern in a light weight, but opaque fabric might be more suitable for the day and age of your daughter.
  • All dresses must be approved in advance of graduation by the Upper School Dean of Students by mid-April 2018. Students may bring the dress in to be approved or email photos with front and back views of the student wearing the dress to jill.hess@duchesne.org. Students who are having a dress made for graduation should bring in fabric swatches and pattern choice for approval before dress construction begins.

Computers

Tablet Computers

All students in grade 5 - 12 are issued a tablet PC by Duchesne Academy. This computer is set up to access everything a student will need for classes at Duchesne. Students do not need to bring their own laptop.

Incoming students will have an orientation session where technology staff will go over how to access the Duchesne network, including services such as email, class pages, schedules, grades, and more.

The computer bundle includes a tablet PC, power cord, stylus, a replacement battery, 4-year manufacturer warranty with accidental damage coverage, safeguard protection for loss or theft, laptop case, software licenses, and access to our on-site help desk with loaner availability. Additional or replacement stylus or power cords can be purchased at the help desk on campus and will be charged to your student account.

Software

All software is pre-installed on student computers. These software applications are available to Duchesne students as long as they are enrolled at Duchesne.

Medical Forms

MAGNUS Health Portal

Duchesne Academy uses a system called MAGNUS to manage all student health records.

All forms for medical records, including physical forms, immunization record forms, and medication authorization, can be found in MAGNUS and are submitted through this system.

If you need assistance with the MAGNUS system, please contact healthservices@duchesne.org.

MAGNUS Login

Physicals

Physicals are required for all new students and documentation from the child's physician should be submitted via the MAGNUS Health Portal before the student begins classes.

Additionally, athletes in grades 6-12 must submit physical records each year.

Immunization Policy

Current immunization records are required for all students and must be submitted through the MAGNUS Health Portal. Every student enrolled in a Catholic school in the state of Texas must be immunized against vaccine preventable diseases caused by infectious agents in accordance with the immunization schedule adopted by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

A student who fails to present the required evidence will not be accepted for enrollment. The only exemption to this requirement is a medical exemption stating the medical reason for exemption and signed by a licensed physician (M.D. or D.O) authorized to practice in the state of Texas. It must include the physician's license number.

Medications

Over-the-Counter

The clinic does not stock any over-the-counter medications. OTC medication for the clinic to dispense to your child may be sent in, but it must be provided in its unopened original container and a parent/guardian must submit authorization via the MAGNUS Health Portal.

Prescription

For daily prescription medication that needs to be given during the school day, a parent/guardian must complete a prescription form on the MAGNUS Health Portal, and the medication must come with the current prescription intact.
