Middle and Upper School MOD Schedule

The methodology of the MOD schedule is backed by cognitive science and recommended by educational specialists. The six-term modular (MOD) schedule is a student-centered approach grounded in an understanding of how students learn and a commitment to student well-being. Student-centered schedules are characterized by fewer but longer periods in a day, sufficient breaks for community time, and less chaotic transitions.

Instead of managing six to eight classes daily as in traditional schedules, in the innovative MOD schedule, students manage four. Each MOD lasts 29-30 school days, with four 75 to 80-minute class periods (bins) per day.

The longer class times allow for deeper dives into the curricula, providing opportunities for critical thinking, creative problem solving, and strong relationships between teachers and students. As students recall content from previous MODs, they experience productive retrieval and achieve long-term retention.

Upper School MOD Schedule Key

BIN

The school day is divided into class periods, designated A, B, C, and D bins, during which courses are scheduled. Each bin is 80 minutes in length with a break between each bin throughout the day.

MOD

The school year is divided into six terms, or MODs. Each MOD lasts approximately 30 school days and students have the same classes each day for a given MOD. After most MODs, students have a scheduled day off before the next MOD begins.

Community Time

  • 0 bin is reserved for scheduling specific courses before school, such as Choir and Theater Tech. During this time, students have the opportunity to meet with teachers for questions and support.
  • AAA is a reserved time for Assembly, Advisory (Sophie's Space), and other Activities. Students typically have one to two free AAA periods a week, a great time for them to complete make up work, meet with teachers, or work collaboratively.
  • Students are given a 40 minute lunch.
  • A 15 minute break between C and D bins allows students to reset and grab a snack, if needed.
