  Dash into Summer 2010

Dear Parents,

Duchesne Academy is committed to the academic and spiritual growth of its students. As children gain new skills, they discover new ways to express themselves. Most importantly, they develop new confidence, greater motivation, and increased self-esteem.

In order to give children a continued opportunity to grow in many areas, Duchesne Academy is pleased to offer DASH into Summer 2010 to Duchesne students and non-Duchesne students. We are providing a wonderful variety of courses and programs including enrichment programs and academic credit courses. Traditional camp activities (art, cooking and games) and athletic camps are also offered. Our program is available to girls and boys entering grades Pre-K through 8.  Credit courses will be offered to those entering grades 9 through 12 as well.  We invite you to join us in a summer of growth, sharing and fun.

See you this summer!

Registration
Online registration is fast, safe and easy. Early registration is strongly advised due to limited enrollment of classes.  Students are accepted and all courses are assigned in the order in which applications are received. Notification of acceptance will be via email once you have registered online. Payment in full is expected at time of registration.

Students are required to be in a summer course or in the Early Risers/Extended Day program while on campus. Students must be supervised at all times. Students are not allowed to wait in the library after a course is over or in between courses.

When registering online, you may pay by credit card or charge the summer tuition to your Duchesne student account.

All registrations must be received by May 28, 2010. A $25 late fee will be added to all students who register after May 28, 2010.

Cancellations and Refunds
DASH into Summer reserves the right to change or cancel any course, camp or program. Efforts will be made to assign students affected by such a change or cancellation to another available program, class or course. A complete refund will be given in those cases where other program placement is not possible. Parents will be notified as soon as possible of this situation.

A $50 cancellation fee will be assessed for each week that a class is cancelled by the parent. This includes vacation schedules, conflicting activities and absences. Registration may be cancelled and tuition refunded (minus the cancellation fee) prior to May 28, 2010.

Each time a confirmed class scheduled is changed or switched by the parent, a $15 fee will be charged.

Admission
Duchesne Academy admits students of any race, color, religion, nationality and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded and available to students at the school. Duchesne Academy does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, nationality and ethnic origin in the administration of its educational, admission or financial aid policies.

Dress Code

Appropriate summer school attire is required. All students must wear shorts, T-shirts, socks and tennis shoes. No sandals or flip-flops please!

Early Risers/Extended Day

Students will meet in the Lower School library for Early Risers and Extended Day. Early Risers meet from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. daily. Extended Day is from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily. Students must be picked up on time.  After 6:00 p.m., parents will be charged $10 for every 10 minutes that your child stays late in Extended Day. The fee for Early Risers is $50 a week and for Extended Day is $75 a week. You may register for either of these on a weekly basis.

If an occasion arises that your child will need to be dropped off or picked up late one day, the fee will be $12/day for Early Risers and $15/day for Extended Day. Payment for last minute drop- offs will be handled by the Business Office.

All students staying for afternoon camp activities are required to eat lunch in the cafeteria at noon. All other students must be picked-up promptly at noon in the Lower School circular drive. Students will need to bring a sack lunch. We have two microwaves in the cafeteria. There is no food service during the summer.

Early Pick-up/Late Arrival
Please come to the DASH into Summer office located in the Lower School Library to sign your child in or out when picking up late or leaving early.

Absence
To report an absence, please call (713) 468-8211, ext 200 and leave your child's name and the classes that will be missed. We will notify the instructor(s).

Student Responsibility

Duchesne Academy expects its students to maintain an honorable standard of behavior. Stealing, possession or use of alcohol, drugs or tobacco, cheating or dishonesty will result in a student's dismissal. Duchesne also reserves the right to dismiss any student whose conduct is disruptive to her/his fellow classmates or to Duchesne. The Duchesne handbook of rules and responsibilities applies to the Summer Program and is available online. Click here for the Lower School Handbook, here for the Middle School Handbook and here for the Upper School Handbook.

Discipline Policy
Parents of students displaying unacceptable behavior will be notified immediately. This notification may result in removal from the program with no refund(s).

Emergency Closing

In case of weather alerts and other emergencies, Duchesne Academy will follow the decision of the Houston Independent School District regarding the closing of school.  Local radio stations carry this information; calls should not be directed to the school or White House.  Tune to KTRH (740 AM) and Channel 2 KPRC.  Please note that there are no refunds for days the camp is closed due to the weather.

Academic Credit
Credit courses are demanding academically and the schedule is rigorous. Perfect attendance is required. Credit will not be awarded to students who miss one (1) day period. Grade reports will be issued at the end of the course. The final grade for the course will be mailed to the students and to their home schools. If a student withdraws from a credit course after a class has begun, the withdrawal and the withdrawal grade will be noted on the student's permanent record. Withdrawals require a parent's written authorization.

Field Trips
Waivers will be provided by teachers for all who go on field trips. All students who leave campus must wear DASH into Summer t-shirts for easy identification.
