The Middle School Competitive Speech Team brought home three trophies at the St. Thomas High School Speech Tournament on April 23-24. Katie Butler won 2nd place in Prose and 2nd place in Dramatic Interpretation. Anwesha Dubey received the 3rd place trophy in Poetry.
The team reached the semifinal round in the seven events they entered, with four students advancing to the finals in five events. Semifinalists included Katie, Anwesha, Madeine Ginty, Bianca Gonzalez, Srini Kumar, Estrella Ross, and Jourdan Webb. Katie, Anwesha, Madeleine, and Estrella competed in the finals.
The Middle School Speech Team spent April 9-10 on the Kinkaid School campus competing against 200 speech students from The Woodlands, Cypress-Fairbanks, Kinkaid, Spring, and Lanier Middle School. The students who competed from Duchesne (Caroline Birch, Katie Butler, Mahum Farhan, Bianca Gonzalez, Victoria Kinkead, Srini Kumar, Diana Moriarty, Maheen Riaz, Estrella Ross and Rebekah Smith) went through four grueling rounds of competition before sending Katie Butler, Victoria Kinkead, Srini Kumar, and Maheen Riaz to the semi-finals. The finals in Prose and Humorous Interpretation found Duchesne up against Lanier, as their only competitors. The result of the final round produced a trophy for 2nd Place in Prose for Victoria Kinkead and a 4th Place trophy in Humorous Interpretation for Srini Kumar.
