Global Outreach awakens students and the Duchesne community to the responsibility to connect with ministries among the poor, marginalized, and those suffering from injustice worldwide. From the youngest student to the faculty, staff, and parents, the community strives to learn about and respond to the needs of the world.
Through activities and events, students raise funds to support our sister schools in Uganda, Sacred Heart Primary School Kyamusansala and Kangole Girl's Senior Secondary School. These funds have been used to build classrooms and dorms, provide a water tank for the school, and give scholarships for the students. Three teachers from Duchesne have made summer trips to these schools to bring supplies, help the Ugandan teachers, and bring our message of love to our sisters.
Duchesne also offers Summer Service opportunities through our membership with the Network of Sacred Heart Schools. In the summer of 2017, ten service opportunities will be offered at Sacred Heart schools across the country for students entering grades 7–12. One will be a project hosted by Duchesne Academy for students entering grades 11–12.
A Sacred Heart education is beneficial to me because it teaches me how to be a strong, independent woman who is able to instill her faith and good works in all that she does.
Duchesne is part of a network of 22 Sacred Heart schools in the United States, which makes it possible for us to offer our students an exchange program at those schools. Currently, we offer this opportunity to all eighth graders and 10th–12th graders. This enables our girls to become independent and self-directed in an environment that is different, yet familiar. They will live with a host family, meet other Sacred Heart students, get to experience another Sacred Heart school environment, and make lifelong friends. We also encourage our Duchesne families to be host families.
