Duchesne Academy students stepped into the spotlight during the Houston Youth Leadership Awards presentation at Jones Hall on February 8. Junior Doha Fotouh was one of six Houston area students to receive the award, which honors young people who work to make the world a better place.
The awards presentation featured Greg Mortenson, author of Three Cups of Tea and the founder of the Central Asia Institute, which promotes and supports community-based education in remote areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Mr. Mortenson interviewed the award recipients and presented the students with their awards, which included a $500 contribution to the charity of their choice.
The Duchesne Academy combined choir, consisting of students in grades 4 through 12, performed at the event, singing Three Cups of Tea, a special song which was composed in honor of Mr. Mortenson and his efforts to make education available to young people, especially girls, in central Asia.
